A Potluck and Cherry Dump

Good Morning! It’s hard to believe that it’s Monday again … praying today is everything you need it to be!! Welcome to my crazy lil world. I am so glad you stopped in.

One of the things that I love to do while staying in a campground is to participate in the activities. Meeting new people is something that Joey and I enjoy doing. Most of the time our campground calendar is full of pot luck dinners and Bingo. Those potluck dinners have me sitting here thinking about some of my favorite recipes.

Have you ever made something so simple that you were almost embarrassed when someone would ask for the recipe? Do the instructions “mix all together or dump everything in a crockpot” constitute as a real recipe”? I sometimes struggle with feeling like things need to be complicated in order to be impressive.

One of the best desserts that always gets me rave reviews is cherry dump cake ….. you guessed it, all I do is buy the ingredients, dump in a dish, and bake. Most times when I label it I put on the little tag, cherry & pineapple cobbler …. it makes it sound like I had to put a lot of work into it. What I noticed was that when people thought it took a lot of work they were not interested in making it themselves.

The other night while we sat out on the RV patio Joey & I had a conversation about how sometimes we make following Jesus appear complicated. We give people a list of dos and don’ts. We pride ourselves on all our good works as we show them off like they are the recipe for salvation. We even convince ourselves that we must do X,Y, and Z in order to be loved by God. Joey looked at me in the twilight of Sunday evening and said , ” honey, without realizing it we almost make salvation seem too much to even hope for”.

Wow, that was such an eye opening statement… salvation is a gift. We couldn’t earn it if we wanted to and if it was for sale we could never afford it.

As I sit here writing this blog and thinking about warm cherry dump cake I want you to know dear friend … it isn’t complicated, and you don’t need any special skills! The recipe is the same for you as it was for the jailer in Acts 16:30-31. We just need to believe and we will be saved. Jesus did not make it complicated to come to Him… you just need to take the first step and simply come.

“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

So today on this beautiful Monday take a moment to thank the Lord for the uncomplicated truth of the gospel. He made it so that everyone could comprehend His Word and come into His presence…. and I don’t know about you but this totally excites me !!!

You are loved… you have been chosen and set apart !!

Be blessed, be bold, and be you !
